Description
ELITE II Losartan Heart Failure Survival Study. The ELITE II trial is the only mortality trial comparing an ARB and an ACEi that has been conducted up to now.
Objectives
- The ELITE study showed an association between the angiotensin II antagonist losartan and an unexpected survival benefit in elderly heart-failure patients, compared with captopril, an angiotensin-converting-enzyme (ACE) inhibitor.
- ACE inhibitors continue to be the initial treatment for heart failure, and angiotensin II receptor antagonists may be useful when ACE inhibitors are not well tolerated.
