Description

Sickle cell disease is the most common monogenic hematologic disorder that causes significant morbidity and mortality, both in children and adults. Management of Sickle Cell Disease is multidisciplinary in nature with an aim of reducing the number and severity of vasoocclusive crises, infection and both short and long-term complications of the disease. An effective health maintenance program is also imperative in the transition of the patient from pediatric to adult hematological care.

To review the management of acute and chronic complications of sickle cell disease and institute a detailed patient follow-up plan. 3. To demonstrate a working knowledge and practical competency for acute and chronic pain management and other psychosocial issues in patients with sickle cell disease. 5.
